Creating positive change through collaborative art projects in communities that have experienced armed conflict, trauma and social marginalisation
Artolution is a not-for-profit, international community-based public art organisation founded in 2009 by artists Max Frieder and Joel Bergner to ignite positive social change through creative, participatory and collaborative art-making in distressed communities. Artolution empowers artists, young people and communities to be agents of positive social change, to explore critical societal issues and to create opportunities for constructive dialogue.
Through the making of murals and interactive sculptures, diverse communities come together in difficult and uncertain times to address the challenges they face. Artolution has worked in communities across 30 countries, implementing over 400 projects.
As part of its three-year partnership with Artolution, started in 2018, Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE are collaborating on interactive arts projects to promote reconciliation, healing and inclusion among women, children and families from diverse communities around the world, including refugees, street youth, the incarcerated, people with physical and mental disabilities, and young people living in areas of violent conflict or extreme poverty.
On 20th June 2018, to coincide with World Refugee Day and celebrate this collaboration, Gucci dedicated its global ArtWalls to Artolution which utilises visual public art mediums such as mural art and community sculpture, as well as performance genres like dance, theatre and music.
Located in Milan, New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai, the Gucci ArtWalls by Artolution were replicas of community artworks created around the world. A special section on the Gucci App allowed users to scan the walls and discover more details about their history and what they represented.
